Vattenfall erects 1st turbine at 1.5-GW Hollandse Kust Zuid

Swedish power group Vattenfall AB today said that the first turbine has been installed at the 1.5-GW Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore wind farm in Dutch waters that it now owns together with German companies BASF SE (ETR:BAS) and Allianz Capital Partners.

Turbine installation started on April 16, with installation vessel Wind Osprey from Denmark’s Cadeler A/S first loading components for an initial set of four turbines from the quay on the Maasvlakte.

“The vessel will take four wind turbines on board each trip, with the goal of having all turbines installed by 2023,” said Soren Andersen, senior turbine installation package manager at Vattenfall.

The deployment of the project's remaining 104 foundations will now also start, with all of them to be in place in the summer.

The wind farm, which is being delivered without subsidy, will be made up of a total of 140 Siemens Gamesa turbines of 11 MW each.
