Vargronn, Flotation win acreage for 1.9 GW of Scottish floating wind

Norwegian offshore wind company Vargronn and Scotland’s Flotation Energy have been successful in Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round with their Green Volt and Cenos projects.

The outcome of the leasing round was announced today with 13 projects securing initial agreements.

The Green Volt and Cenos projects will deliver a total of up to 1.9 GW of floating offshore wind capacity, with first power from the schemes potentially coming in 2027 and 2028 respectively. They will provide power and grid-connection to nearby oil and gas platforms in order to decarbonise them. This electricity will power currently generated by gas turbines. At the same time, the wind farms will feed up to 7 TWh annually into the UK grid.

Vargronn, a joint venture between Eni’s Plenitude and HitecVision, and Flotation Energy previously said they would participate in the leasing auction with these two projects.
