Uruguay's UTE signs PPAs for 9.8 MW of solar power

Aug 19, 2014 - Uruguayan state-owned utility UTE yesterday said it had signed 30-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 9.8 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants that will be installed near Paysandu city, western Uruguay.

The utility will purchase the output of the Casalko and Raditon parks, with a capacity of 1.8 MW and 8 MW, respectively, from Chinese firm Sky Solar Group and its local partner Tecnova Renovables.

At the end of June, UTE signed a similar contract for a 50-MW PV project of Dutch firm Fotowatio Renewable Ventures BV.

Uruguay seeks to diversify its energy mix with a focus on hydro and wind power and recently PV projects. According to the plan, in 2015 renewable sources should generate 50% of total energy and over 90% of the electricity.
