Uruguay Alur to boost revenue 53% in 2015

Oct 20, 2014 - Uruguay's state-run biofuel producer Alcoholes del Uruguay (Alur) expects to further increase revenues to USD 330 million (EUR 258.7m) next year from USD 215 million expected in 2014, chairman Leonardo de Leon said Friday.

In the last years Alur's revenue grew along with a diversification of its production from sugar to ethanol, biodiesel, animal feed, glycerine and electricity. The company achieved nearly USD 180 million in 2013 versus USD 25 million between 2006 and 2010.

Alur has recently completed the construction of a new ethanol plant able to produce 70 million litres (18.5m gallons) of the biofuel per year. With the additional capacity, it plans to double the share of ethanol in local fuel blends to 10% next year once the new plant reaches full-scale operation. Ethanol and biodiesel are mixed with fuel produced by Alur's parent, national oil company Ancap.

The company wants to continue its expansion and diversification and implement other renewable energy technologies, such as wind and solar photovoltaic generation, De Leon said.
