Unit Group powers 10.6-MW wind farm in northeastern Bulgaria
(ADPnews) - Nov 29, 2010 - Southeastern Europe-focused energy investor Unit Group announced today it had put into operation the first turbines of a 10.6-MW wind farm in northeastern Bulgaria.
The project, located in the Shabla municipality, includes five wind turbines. Three of them, each with a capacity of 3 MW, kicked off operations this month, while the other two with a combined capacity of 1.6 MW are to start work in May 2011. The wind farm will produce a total of 29,600 MWh a year, enough to power 10,300 households. It will save some 24,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
In August, the company bought the project from Varna Green Energy, which acts as a subcontractor of the turbine provider -- Danish wind-turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS).
