UK facilities management and professional services company Mitie Group plc on Tuesday said it has already managed to achieve 100% renewable electricity across its business.
The announcement came as the company signed up to the RE100 initiative. The switch to 100% renewable energy is part of Mitie's plan to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2025.
RE100 is a global initiative led by non-profit organisation The Climate Group to bring together businesses committed to only using renewable electricity by 2050. This is the third initiative by The Climate Group that Mitie has joined, in addition to EV100 and EP 100, becoming just the eighth firm in the world to sign up to all three.
In addition to using only electricity from renewable sources, Mitie is developing systems that will enable it to pay directly for the energy employees use at home to charge their company electric vehicles. In this way, it will make sure that only renewable energy will be used to charge the EV fleet.
Mitie also said it plans to use its renewable energy expertise, sustainable infrastructure and efficient buildings to back its client's efforts to achieve sustainability and zero carbon emissions.
