Jul 11, 2013 - The UK government today said it had given the thumbs-up to the 1.2-GW Triton Knoll wind project of RWE npower renewables, touted as the biggest offshore wind farm globally.
RWE npower renewables, part of German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE), is to erect 288 turbines off the coast of Lincolnshire, eastern England. The project is to fetch GBP 3.6 billion (USD 5.5bn/EUR 4.2bn) in investment to Lincolnshire and Norfolk, the Department of Energy & Climate Change said in a statement.
Once installed the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm is to generate enough power for 820,000 households, according to estimates.
