Turboden gets order of 3.4-MW geothermal plant in Germany

Italian turbogenerator systems producer Turboden has won an order to supply an organic rankine cycle (ORC) power system for a 3.4-MW geothermal plant in Germany.

The contract was awarded by German firm Geothermie Holzkirchen GmbH, a unit of regional utility Holzkirchen, Turboden said in a press statement on Tuesday.

The ORC system will be used for the Holzkirchen combined geothermal and heat project in Bavaria, which is already under construction. The scope of the contract covers equipment, control system of the power plant, construction at site and commissioning. Turboden explained it will work in partnership with German firm Th Arens Anlagenbau GmbH, deploying a double pressure level process with proprietary turbine, process and air cooled condenser.

The geothermal plant is scheduled to be switched on in the first quarter of 2019. According to Turboden, it will produce electricity and heat, bringing annual revenues of over EUR 6 million (USD 7.1m).

Turboden is part of Japanese heavy machinery maker Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (TYO:7011). The company says it has worked on four geothermal plant projects in Germany, which have been operational since 2013.
