China’s Trina Solar Co Ltd (SHA:688599) on Thursday said it has achieved a record 23.03% aperture module efficiency for larger-area industrial silicon p-type modules.
The result was accomplished with the company’s proprietary Vertex high-efficiency p-type monocrystalline silicon module, based on 66 pcs of 210 mm x 210 mm high-efficiency PERC cells. It has been confirmed by third-party certification laboratories by both TUV Rheinland and TUV Nord, Trina Solar said.
“To the best of our knowledge, it is the first large-area p-type commercial module with aperture efficiency over 23%," said Yifeng Chen, head of the high-efficiency cell and module R&D centre in Trina Solar. Chen further noted that improving module efficiency is a key to help customers realise savings in terms of land, labour, cables and more.
Researchers at Trina Solar's State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology (SKL) have been able to enhance the module efficiency by developing a new Multi-Musbar (MBB) technology to improve optical shading and a new hybrid soldering technology to minimise the gap between cells.
Earlier in 2021, Trina Solar introduced a 670-W Vertex module with 66 pcs of 210 mm p-type PERC cells.
