Paris-based independent power producer (IPP) Total Eren SA has gained entry into the Chilean market after acquiring a 50% stake in the 190-MWp Santa Isabel solar photovoltaic (PV) project from SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR).
The total investment in the project reaches some USD 200 million (EUR 181.3m), Total Eren said.
Santa Isabel enjoys a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Chilean utility Colbun SA, which the project company signed in May 2016. This August, Sterling and Wilson Solar Limited was brought on board the project under a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
Construction at a site near the municipality of Maria Elena, Antofagasta region, has just started, while the commissioning is planned for the fourth quarter of 2020. The future park will be equipped with SunPower’s solar modules from the Performance Series (P-Series) and produce an estimated 500 GWh per year.
The Santa Isabel project can be extended to include a further 280 MWp of capacity, currently under permitting. Total Eren said it intends to develop the extensions, which are currently being negotiated to enter into new private PPAs.
The French company says it has 320 MW of wind and solar capacity under construction or in operation in Argentina and Brazil.
