Japanese conglomerate Toshiba Corp (TYO:6502) said Friday it will provide the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for Thailand-based Gunkul Engineering Pcl's (BKK:GUNKUL) 33.5-MW solar project in Chiba prefecture.
Under the JPY-9-billion (USD 85m/EUR 77m) contract, Toshiba will install the photovoltaic (PV) plant in the city of Kimitsu. Once up and running, the Kimitsu Mega-Solar Plant will be operated by a special purpose company (SPC), set up by Bangkok-based Gunkul to take care of its electricity business in Japan.
The deal calls for Toshiba to handle the overall engineering, including basic design and the supply of major equipment, and the construction of the plant. The company will equip the PV facility with its 750-kW power conditioners and high-efficiency polycrystalline solar modules.
The solar power plant is expected to be put into operation by March 2019. It is anticipated to be able to generate approximately 45 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power some 10,000 local households and offset 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.
