Brazilian footbal club Atletico Mineiro announced on Sunday that Spanish renewable firm Solatio Energia will build a 1.27-MW solar plant at one of its properties in the city of Jaiba.
Located in Minas Gerais state, the photovoltaic (PV) plant will be spread over an area of 3 hectares. Comprised of 3,840 solar panels, the solar park is expected to be able to generate about 2,289 MWh per year, according to estimates by the construction company.
Once completed, the facility should help save 10% of the club's total electricity consumption on all of its properties over a 20-year period. Atletico Mineiro will be the first football club in Brazil to benefit from a solar installation.
