Japanese utility Chubu Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9502) announced last week it has started the construction of a 5.6-MW hydropower plant (HPP) in Nagano.
Located in Aichi village, the Senaiji Hydropower Plant, as it is named, is expected to commence operations in June 2022, the company said.
Once completed, the HPP is expected to generate 29 million kWh of energy per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 8,800 local homes. It is also capable of offsetting 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, Chubu noted.
