to-the-point: Chile SIC's wind, solar farms generate 5.2% in May 2015
Chile's wind and solar parks in the central system SIC produced 228 GWh last month, or 5.21% of the system's output, compared to 76 GWh a year earlier, according to system operator CDEC-SIC.
Wind power output soared 300% year-on-year to 160 GWh, or 3.65% of SIC's overall monthly output. The installed wind capacity rose to 805.1 MW versus 744 MW the previous month, with the addition of Enel Green Power's Talinay Poniente wind farm, while solar power reached 296.3 MW, with two new photovoltaic plants totaling some 100 MW. Total installed capacity in the system reached 15,453 MW.
Gross power output inched up 0.1% year-on-year to 4,370 GWh, led by thermal generation, with 64.82%, and hydroelectric plants, with 29.97%.
