November 21 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Ministry of Education (MEC) disbursed BRL 60 million (USD 14.3m/EUR 12.9m) for the installation of 852 photovoltaic (PV) arrays in 41 educational institutions across the country.
The programme concerns 38 federal institutes, two technological education centres (Cefet) and the Pedro II College in Rio de Janeiro. The government estimates that the installation of solar systems there will bring electricity bill savings of a total of BRL 17.7 million annually. These money could be invested in teaching, research and expansion of the campuses.
