to-the-point: Bolivia may collaborate with Austria for small hydro plants

October 5 (SeeNews) - Bolivia's energy ministry received a proposal from an Austrian delegation visiting the country on Thursday about the development of micro-hydropower plants for rural communities isolated from the grid.

Minister Luis Sanchez said that Bolivia is planning to install around 200 MW in micro-hydro plants and that the proposal could contribute to renewable power generation and local efforts for the expansion of electricity services.
Austria has previously financed a 7.6-MW micro-hydro plant in the Cochabamba department.

The Austrian representatives also offered training in renewable energy technologies and financing as part of Bolivia's energy policy.
