Taiwan releases 2020 renewables FiT with 7.6% lower rate for offshore wind

The Taiwanese government announced at the very end of 2019 the renewable energy feed-in tariff (FiT) rates for 2020, including a 7.64% reduction of the offshore wind rate.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs explained its decision to lower the 20-year offshore wind FiT for newly-contracted projects to TWD 5.0946 (USD 0.169/EUR 0.151) per kWh with technological progress and international development trends. Developers will also have the option to get TWD 5.8015/kWh for the first ten years and then TWD 3.8227/kWh for the remaining ten.

For comparison, offshore wind projects contracted in 2019 will receive TWD 5.5160/kWh for 20 years.

The tariff for onshore wind between 1 kW and 30 kW is set at TWD 7.7998 kWh/kWh, which is a bit more than the TWD 7.7916/kWh proposed in the draft due to higher operating and maintenance costs.

The FiT for solar photovoltaics (PVs) goes down by 0.34% to TWD 3.9408/kWh, with the cost of solar panel recycling decreasing by 2.44% to TWD 5.7788/kWh. At the same time, rooftop solar arrays not exceeding 20 kW will get TWD 5.7788/kWh, down from TWD 5.7983/kWh.
