Nov 8, 2013 - Swiss green energy producer Kleinkraftwerk Birseck (KKB) said on Wednesday it will add 7.9 MW of solar capacity to its renewable energy portfolio in a total investment of CHF 17 million (EUR 13.8m/USD 18.5m).
The company has invested CHF 12.5 million in three large-scale rooftop solar power projects with a total capacity of 6 MW. The plants in the northern Swiss cantons Thurgau, Solothurn and Aargau are currently under construction and will have a total annual output of 5.7 GWh, enough to provide electricity to 1,500 households.
In addition, the company will invest another CHF 4.5 million in 10 middle-scale projects with a total capacity of 1.9 MW. Completion of the projects is expected for the end of the year.
KKB currently operates 24 solar installations with a total capacity of 2.2 MW in Switzerland. Upon the completion of the current projects, the total capacity owned by KBB will come to 10.1 MW.
The company aims to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 300 MW of green power installations by 2020.
