Indian wind turbine maker Suzlon (BOM:532667) said Saturday it had successfully completed and put into operation 4.2 MW of wind power capacity in the western state of Gujarat.
The plant is located in Kutch district’s village of Nakhatrana. It represents Ahmedabad Municipal Corp’s (AMC) maiden wind project, according to the press statement.
The wind farm uses two units of Suzlon’s new S97 turbine model with 120-metre all‐steel hybrid towers. Their output will help offset some 9,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, the developer calculates.
“Renewable energy is one area where even at a Municipal level we can show global leadership and where we all can play our small part in helping to mitigate climate change challenges,” AMC Municipal Commissioner, Shri Mukesh Kumar, said. This is the second Gujarati renewable energy project on which Suzlon worked on under a deal with a local self‐governing urban body, it noted.
As of March 2016, Gujarat’s cumulative installed wind capacity amounted to 4,038 MW. Suzlon accounted for 1,842 MW of that.
