SunPower unveils 3.6-MW solar plan for 17 California schools
Dec 5, 2013 - US solar systems manufacturer SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) said Thursday it had been selected to design and install 3.6 MW of solar capacity, to be up and ready to run next year, at 17 schools in Oakland, California.
The project for the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) will include rooftop solar arrays and solar shade structures in parking lots, all using SunPower’s solar panels. The company said that the solar systems will avoid 80,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions for 30 years.
Financial details on the project were not provided.
So far, SunPower has installed over 61 MW of solar panels under projects with 23 school districts in California, it noted.
SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR) returned to a net profit of USD 108.4 million (EUR 79.5m) in the third quarter of 2013 from a loss of USD 48.5 a year back. Revenue increased to USD 657.1 million from USD 648.9 million a year earlier.
