Norwegian state-owned energy company Statkraft AS has once again partnered with BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH, looking to secure the output of the 50-MWp Don Rodrigo 2 solar park that the Munich-based company is building in Spain.
The Norwegian-German pair has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement for the new park near Seville, southern Spain, after first shaking hands on the nearby 170-MWp Don Rodrigo in the spring of 2018.
Statkraft said in a press release Wednesday that BayWa r.e. had started building the new solar park less than a year after finalising construction on the first Don Rodrigo project. Don Rodrigo 2 will sit on 162 hectares (400.3 acres) of land less than 3 kilometres (1.86 miles) away from Don Rodrigo. Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of the year.
As was the case with Don Rodrigo, Don Rodrigo 2 is also a subsidy-free project.
