Real estate investment trust STAG Industrial Inc (NYSE:STAG) on Wednesday said construction has begun on three on-site solar projects totalling 11.6 MW in Maryland.
Among the three is the installation of a 9.2-MW solar array atop STAG's Hampstead facility, which, according to the company, will become the largest rooftop community solar plant in the US.
STAG's three-project initiative is part of Maryland's community solar programme. The arrays are developed by Summit Ridge Energy and Black Bear Energy and will be owned by Summit Ridge.
Once operational, the three systems will produce over 15 million kWh of power a year, or enough to supply almost 1,500 households. The latest projects bring STAG's total solar capacity to over 25.5 MW.
Last week, the company broke ground on an on-site solar installation in Illinois and another in Massachusetts, which will amount to a combined capacity of 3.5 MW. The two arrays will generate over 4.4 million kWh of electricity a year, enough to supply almost 361 homes. These installations are expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.
