Spanish Gamesa nabs USD 417.7m wind turbine order in Brazil

Sep 14, 2012 - Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa (MCE:GAM) yesterday said it will supply 258 MW in wind turbines to Brazil's Palmar Holding under a deal worth BRL 843 million (USD 417.7m/EUR 322.3m).
Palmar Holding is formed by Brazilian investment fund Rio Bravo Energia I and federal utility Eletrosul, a subsidiary of power holding company Eletrobras (SAO:ELET3)
Gamesa will deliver and install 129 of its G97-2.0 MW turbines and will perform operation and maintenance (O&M) services on them for a period of 20 years.
The turbines are earmarked for Palmar Holding's 10 wind parks to be developed in the city of Santa Vitoria do Palmar, southernmost Rio Grande do Sul.
Gamesa will start installing the equipment at the end of the first half of 2013. Completion is scheduled for March 2014.
When the wind parks become operational, they will generate 957,000 MWh of electricity per year, Gamesa said.
Gamesa started producing turbines in Brazil a year ago and in the last months has won contracts totalling 652 MW for local wind projects, the company outlined.
