Mexican retailer Organizacion Soriana SAB de CV (BMV:SORIANAB) said on Thursday that alongside local partner Gemex it will build two 49.5-MW wind parks in the country’s Tamaulipas state.
Each plant will require an investment of about USD 130 million (EUR 115.5m) and will consist of 15 wind turbines. The North American Development Bank will provide a total of USD 80 million for the two projects, while the rest of the sum will be covered with private funds and capital contributions by Gemex.
The supermarket chain intends to use the output of the two wind farms to power its stores. Its goal is to source 100% of the electricity consumed by its sites from renewables in the future.
The construction of the two plants is expected to create 500 direct job positions.
