(ADPnews) - Nov 4, 2010 - US photovoltaic (PV) systems maker Solyndra Inc intends to reduce the "all-in" price for its systems to USD 3.50 (EUR 2.5) per watt by the end of 2011, in a bid to sell price-competitive products, CEO Brian Harrison told Greentech Media.
Harrison said in an interview with the news site on Wednesday that even as he speaks the price for a Solyndra system, including modules and tracks, can go as low as USD 4 per watt, depending on the roof.
According to Harrison, the company's module production costs will be under USD 2 per watt by the end of next year, while the modules will be probably selling at USD 2-2.35 per watt and the balance of system may be priced at USD 1.10-1.35 per watt.
The price of Solyndra systems could halve to USD 2 per watt and manufacturing cost for modules drop to USD 1.30 a watt by the end of 2012 or by March 2013, Harrison added.
On Tuesday Solyndra said it would close its existing factory by the end of the year, put on hold expansion plans at its second plant and slash some 155-175 jobs in the coming weeks in a bid to cut production costs due to severe competition.
