Solon's solar panels show 100% resistance against PID

Nov 15, 2012 - German solar module maker Solon Energy GmbH today said its solar panels demonstrated 100% resistance against potential induced degradation (PID) during tests at Photovoltaik-Institut Berlin.

During the tests performed by the German testing and certification institute, the Solon Black 230/07 module did not show any measurable power loss.

As part of the test, solar panels were subjected to temperature of 85 degrees Celsius, 85% relative humidity and 1,000 volts for a period of 48 hours. The Solon Black 230 did not show any changes in performance after twice this period of time, which makes it class AA.

The Solon module showed resistance under conditions which are likely to be less difficult in standard tests in the future. The standard test expected to be introduced in 2014 is to subject solar modules to 60 degrees Celsius, 85% relative humidity and 1,000 volts for 96 hours.
