Photovoltaic (PV) power supplied 11.5% of Italy’s total electricity demand in June 2015, figures from power grid operator Terna SpA (BIT:TRN) show.
Grid connected solar power plants produced 3,022 GWh in June, up 7.3% on the year. Wind power generation for the month also surged 10% on the year while hydro power dropped by 16.6% year-on-year.

Italian power demand stood at 26.3 TWh in June, down 0.1% on the year, or 1.1% if adjusted for calender and temperature.
Fossil fuel-fired thermal power plants continue to dominate the energy supply in Italy with a 53.6% share as of the start of 2015. Geothermal, wind and solar together accounted for 16.2% and hydropower had a 15.2% share.
At maximum peak levels, renewable sources meet far bigger portions of the national demand.
