Wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) today confirmed an order to equip the 231-MW Skaftasen wind farm project in Sweden with turbines from its new 5.X platform.
This is the manufacturer’s first order for the platform, which was introduced in April and consists of the SG 5.8-155 and the SG 5.8-170 models with rotor diameters of 155 metres (508.5 ft) and 170 metres. With a 170-metre rotor, those are the most powerful geared turbines on the onshore wind market.
Under the Swedish contract, Siemens Gamesa will supply 35 units of its SG 5.8-155 machines with flexible power rating of 6.6 MW. They will be powering the Skaftasen wind farm in Fagelsjo, which UK investment manager Foresight Group LLP agreed to buy from project developer Arise AB (STO:ARISE) earlier this week.
Siemens Gamesa expects the installation of the equipment to take place in the second quarter of 2021. The company noted that the turbines will be delivered in the cold climate version of the platform, capable of operating in temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
The order comes with a 30-year full-service agreement.
