Electrolfuels specialist HIF Global has chosen Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR) to supply electrolysers for a 1.8-GW green hydrogen and e-fuels production facility in Matagorda County, Texas.
HIF Global announced this on Wednesday, saying that the planned HIF Matagorda site will be the first world-scale e-fuels facility. It will use renewable power to produce some 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

As previously reported, US project management company Bechtel Energy, Siemens Energy and Denmark’s Topsoe A/S are all engaged in the project. The latest statement indicates that Siemens Energy’s Silyzer 300 polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolysers will be used.
"The agreement with Siemens Energy allows for electrolyser deliveries which could support the start of construction as early as the first part of 2024 for the HIF Matagorda eFuels Facility,” said Cesar Norton, CEO of HIF Global.
On the other hand, Siemens Energy’s Stefano Innocenzi, SVP of Sustainable Energy Systems, stated that agreements such as this one provide planning certainty and create “the basis for ramping up the technology and the industry as a whole.” The announcement points out that this deal will enable Siemens Energy to expand its electrolyser manufacturing capacity beyond its original plan.
Also this week, HIF Global unveiled a deal with Baker Hughes (NASDAQ:BKR) to test the latter’s Mosaic Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology pilot units to accelerate DAC deployment at a commercial scale.
“Cooperation with our partner Baker Hughes on this important DAC initiative accelerates our plan to capture 25 million tons per year of CO2 and combine it with green hydrogen to produce 150,000 barrels per day of eFuels and decarbonize over 5 million vehicles in use today,” Norton commented on that matter.
