BELGRADE (Serbia), July 1 (SeeNews) – Serbia said it will get 137 million euro ($198 million) in financial aid from Germany, aimed mainly for energy projects.
Some 105 million euro from the aid package will be used for energy projects, including 69 million euro for the modernization of hydro power plant Vlasina and 35 million euro for stockpiling ash at coal-fired plant Nikola Tesla, the government in Belgrade on Thursday quoted Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic as saying after signing the deal with German ambassador Wolfram Maas.
Twenty five million euro will be allocated for improving the country's economic situation, reducing unemployment and for rural development, while 9.0 million euro are earmarked for institutional capacity building, the statement said.
The goal of this assistance is to improve Serbia’s social and economic development and facilitate its EU accession, the statement said.
Serbia applied for European Union membership in December 2009, and expects that the bloc will set a date for opening accession talks with the country by the end of the year.
