Romania's Hidroelectrica Invests 350 Mln Euro in Upgrade of Five Hydro Plants
BUCHAREST (Romania), September 7 (SeeNews) – Romanian state-owned hydropower generator and supplier Hidroelectrica is investing 350 million euro ($502 million) until 2011 in boosting the generation capacity of five of its power plants, the company said on Monday.
The project envisages the modernisation of the 20 generation units of the power plants located on the Olt river, in southwestern Romania, the company said in a statement. Seven of those units have been upgraded so far.
As a result of the upgrade, the installed capacity of each of the plants will rise to 57 megawatt (MW) from 53 MW now, it added.
Hidroelectrica, set up in 2000, operates 275 hydro power plants which generate some 17,330 gigawatt hours per year, or 30% of Romania’s electricity output.
