Romanian Wind Energy Sector May Attract 5.0 Bln Euro by 2013 – RWEA

BUCHAREST (Romania), October 20 (SeeNews) – Romania's wind energy sector has the potential to attract more than 5.0 billion euro ($6.9 billion) investments for an installed capacity of 3,000 megawatts (MW) by 2013, the country’s wind energy association, RWEA, said on Thursday.

The investments will create more than 6,000 jobs, RWEA said in a statement.

Last week, the Romanian government approved a support scheme for energy producers from renewable sources, based on the allocation of green certificates.

RWEA said in the statement that it welcomes the decision, which brings the support scheme in Romania closer to those applied in other EU member states.

In the case of wind energy, the country’s support scheme gives wind power producers two green certificates for every megawatt hour of electricity they produce. Power distributors must buy an annual quota of tradable certificates representing green energy. Thus producers of green energy gain from both the sale of electricity and the sale of green certificates.
