BUCHAREST (Romania), November 27 (SeeNews) - Romania will commit before the European Commission (EC) to a renewable energy target of 30.5% for the year 2030, up from 27.9% targeted previously, local media reported.

The government will send a modified National Integrated Climate Change-Energy Plan to the EC with the new assumed target, Agerpres news agency quoted unnamed sources from the energy ministry as saying on Tuesday.

In June, the EC said Romania should increase its renewable energy target to 34% from 27.9% by 2030 in order to contribute to the European Union's renewable goals.

Romania also needs to put in place measures to simplify the licensing and permitting procedures and provide additional details on the enabling frameworks for renewable self-consumption and renewable energy communities, the EC said at the time in recommendations on Romania's integrated national energy and climate plan for 2021-2030.
