Ridge Clean Energy unveils plans for 40.8-MW hybrid power complex in Cumbria

UK renewables developer Ridge Clean Energy is working on a plan to build a 40.8-MW hybrid power complex with wind, solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage capacity.

The so-called Great Oaks Renewable Energy Park is proposed to be built in Cumbria, England, within an agricultural site covering 31 acres (77 acres), the developer said this week. The specific site is planned to become home to wind turbines totalling 16.8 MW, an up to 24-MW solar array and a battery storage system of up to 20 MW in size.

According to the project’s website, Ridge Clean Energy is currently conducting technical site assessments and surveys and will later seek a planning permit from the Allerdale Borough Council. The application is seen to be filed in the autumn, with a decision expected in the spring of 2023.

Construction works are expected to take six months. Once up and running, the complex will generate enough electricity to cover the annual power consumption of around 16,900 local homes.

Two public exhibitions are due to be held in early August to present the proposal to the local community.
