Renewables to cover 14.4% of Italy's energy demand in 2020-2025
Sep 28, 2011 - Renewable energy will cover 14.4% of Italy's energy demand in 2020-2025, compared with 10% now, Italian oil industry group Unione Petrolifera (UP) said in its 2011 report yesterday.
Italy's energy demand is seen to rise to 195.5 million of tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) in 2025 from 177.5 million toe in 2011 and 186.6 million toe expected in 2015.
The share of oil in Italy's energy demand is expected to drop to 34.3% in 2025 from 40% in 2011 and 37.8% in 2015. Gas demand, on the other hand, is forecast to rise and come to cover over 40% of Italy's demand in 2025 compared with 37.4% in 2011. Gas will become Italy's main energy source as of 2014, UP said.
