Renewables share drops to 5.4% in Peru as total output rises in May

Non-conventional renewables produced 5.4% of Peru’s electricity in May, show the latest estimates released by the Peruvian energy ministry.

The combined output from plants running on biogas, bagasse biomass, wind and solar power reached 261 GWh in May, which was 14% more compared to the same month a year ago.

The proportion of renewables in the May production run fell from the 6% share in April as the output from natural gas plants spiked again.

The total power production rose by 32.7% on the year to 4,812 GWh.
