Aug 29, 2013 - US solar systems integrator Real Goods Solar Inc (NASDAQ:RSOL) said today it would install a 1.06-MW solar plant for the Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) in California.
The photovoltaic (PV) system, to be built by Real Goods Solar’s commercial and utility unit RGS Energy, will power ISD’s water recycling facility and administration premises in Oakley, California.
RGS Energy will design, build, monitor and maintain the installation, which will include a 1-MW single-axis tracker and a 60-kW carport facility. The system is expected to produce over 2.3 million kWh of power each year.
Construction works are scheduled to start in the autumn with the aim to put the plant on stream in the first quarter of next year.
Once operational, the solar system is expected to generate cost savings of over USD 5.9 million (EUR 4.2m) during its lifespan. In the first year alone, it is calculated to cut ISD’s power bills by at least USD 95,000. The output of the PV plant will be sold to US-based Constellation Energy Resources LLC, part of Exelon Corp (NYSE:EXC), after which ISD will buy the electricity at below market prices.
