Oct 16, 2014 - The spot price for silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) modules climbed by 1.14% in the week ended October 15 to an average of USD 0.619 (EUR 0.483) per watt, the latest data by research firm PVinsights shows.
Meanwhile, a thin-film module was selling at an average spot price of USD 0.642 per watt, marking a 0.31% week-on-week drop.
The price for multi-crystalline silicon (multi-Si) cells rose by 0.88% to USD 1.381 per watt per 156-sq-mm piece, while the one for mono-crystalline silicon (mono-Si) cells of the same size slipped by 0.21% to USD 1.901 per watt. The average spot price for Taiwan-made polysilicon cells was 0.31% higher week-on-week, or USD 0.325 per watt.
Moving up the supply chain, the price for multi-si wafers increased by 0.92% to USD 0.878 per 156-sq-mm piece. Mono-si wafers of the same size were selling at the same price as in the prior week, or USD 1.193.
The average spot price for PV-grade polysilicon, the main raw material for the photovoltaics industry, went up by 0.48% to USD 20.800 per kg in the period under review, while the one for second-grade polysilicon rose by 0.39% to USD 20.680 per kg.
