Prysmian wins cable job on 1.4-GW UK offshore wind project
Italy’s Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY) on Tuesday said it has inked a preferred bidder agreement with Germany's RWE AG (ETR:RWE) for the cable connection for the 1.4-GW Sofia wind project in UK waters.
The contract, worth over EUR 200 million (USD 237m), covers the wind farm's high voltage submarine and land export cable connection. The agreement will be finalised after final negotiations and the final investment decision by RWE, expected to take place in the first quarter of 2021.
The new wind farm will be located 195 kilometres (121.2 miles) off the UK coast on Dogger Bank in the shallow area of the central North Sea. The wind park is expected to be commissioned in 2025 and to produce enough electricity for over 1.2 million households.
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) has been chosen to supply 100 turbines for the project.
