September 8 (SeeNews) - According to 93% of Germans the further expansion of the country’s renewable energy capacity is important or very important, shows a poll carried out on behalf of the German Agency for Renewable Energy (AEE).

About 68% of those polled consider the installation of renewable energy systems near their home a good thing. For example, 77% say having a solar park in the neighbourhood is good or very good, and for wind that percentage is 59%. In contrast, only 7% would accept a coal power plant in the vicinity.

Germans support renewable energy due to the security of supply, the fact that green power plants help in the fight with climate change, and because they allow the country to achieve greater independence from energy imports.

The survey was conducted by TNS Emnid in August and involved 1,006 respondents.
