Jul 19, 2012 - Total installed renewable power capacity in Poland increased by 281.7 MW in the second quarter of 2012 to a total of 3,801 MW, news portal Wnp.pl reported yesterday, citing data from the Polish Energy Regulatory Office.
As much as 718.4 MW of green power plants were added in the first half of the year, which is more than the newly added capacity in the whole 2011. Yet, the growth in renewable power capacity in the second quarter is lower compared with the first quarter of the year when the newly added capacity stood at 436.7 MW.
Newly added wind power capacity during the second quarter was 220.2 MW, or 78% of the total renewable power capacity installed during the quarter. As of the end of June, total installed wind power capacity reached 2,189 MW, or 58% of the total installed renewable power capacity in Poland.
Biogas power capacity in the past quarter rose by 7.6 MW to 119.4 MW at the end of June. Biomass power capacity increased by 48 MW to 533.4 MW. Hydropower capacity rose by 5.8 MW to a total of 957.4 MW. Solar power capacity rose to 1.252 MW at the end of June from 1.125 MW at the end of March.
