Oct 29, 2013 - Australian biofuels firm Algae.Tec Ltd (ASX:AEB) said today it had agreed to supply its algae-to-biofuel technology to Phoenix Energy Australia for the latter’s waste-to-energy projects in Australia and New Zealand.
Algae.Tec offers an enclosed modular technology, which captures carbon dioxide (CO2) waste from power plants and factories and feeds it into algae growth systems. These modules will be easily installed at Phoenix Energy’s sites, where they will capture the CO2 emissions from the combustion of municipal solid waste.
At present, Phoenix Energy is in talks to install and manage centralised energy-from-waste plants that will receive waste from groups of Australian municipalities. Under the binding agreement between the two firms, Algae.Tec will provide its technology for any facility constructed by Phoenix Energy Australia.
“The Algae.Tec process has the potential to be retrofitted to many of the 1,000 international waste to energy plants, of which over 400 are based on the same technology we are deploying here in Australia and New Zealand,” said Peter Dyson, managing director of Phoenix Energy.
Phoenix Energy is already partnering with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environment and Chemical Co and John Holland.
