OVO Energy seals 62.5-MW Scottish wind PPA with Eneco

UK energy supplier OVO Energy will buy the entire output of the 62.5-MW Crystal Rig 1 wind park in Scotland under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Dutch utility Eneco.

The wind farm is owned and operated by Fred. Olsen Renewables, a subsidiary of Norwegian group Bonheur ASA (OSL:BON).

OVO Energy announced last week that the off-take contract will see it buy 100% of the electricity to be generated from the Crystal Rig I plant from March 2021.

Located in the Scottish Borders region of East Scotland, the Crystal Rig I wind park was built back in 2014 with 20 turbines. The plant was expanded three years later with five additional turbine generators. It forms part of the Crystal Rig wind complex, which also includes the Crystal Rig II park.

The deal comes on the heels of OVO Energy’s commitment in April to buy the output of Ørsted A/S’ 90-MW Barrow wind farm in the East Irish Sea, off the North West coast of England. Both contracts align with the UK firm's strategy to supply 100% renewable electricity backed by Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates (REGOs).
