Sep 17, 2014 - Japanese construction firm OSJB Holdings Corp (TYO:5912) plans to invest JPY 465 million (USD 4.3m/EUR 3.3m) to build a 1.5-MW solar park on Honshu island, western Japan.
The project will be managed by OSJB’s subsidiary Oriental Shiraishi Corp, the parent firm said in a press release on Friday. On-site construction activities are scheduled to start next month, while commercial operations are slated to begin in May 2015.
The photovoltaic (PV) facility will be located at OSJB’s property in Nishiwaki city, Hyogo prefecture. The installation will comprise 7,200 solar panels, to spread on an area of 26,840 sq m (289,000 sq ft). When up and running, the plant will be able to generate nearly 1.8 million kWh of electricity per year, the developer estimates. It will get a feed-in tariff (FiT) of JPY 36 per kWh for a 20-year period.
Japan aims to install 28 GW of solar capacity by 2020 as part of its effort to promote the use of renewable energy sources. The introduction of attractive FiTs in July 2012 has turned the country into an important solar market.
