Orix breaks ground on 19.6 MW PV plant in Aomori

Japanese financial services conglomerate Orix Corp (TYO:8591) announced on Monday it has started construction of a 19.6-MW solar power plant in the Aomori prefecture.

Located in Shichinohe town, the photovoltaic (PV) facility is being developed in a partnership with local SymEnergy Inc. The companies set up a joint venture named Aomori Nanobe Mega Solar Power Station, in which Orix controls 65％ and SymEnergy holds the remaining 35％.

The Shichinohe PV plant will comprise 58,000 solar panels covering an area of approximately 480,000 square metres. Commissioning is scheduled for January 2020, and once up and running, the plant is expected to generate 20 million kWh per year, enough power to meet the annual demand of 5,550 local homes.

Orix is currently developing and managing a total of 990 MW of solar power plants, while SymEnergy has a solar portfolio of about 60 MW, the company noted.
