Jul 31, 2014 - The Canadian province of Ontario will offer contracts for about 123.5 MW of small renewable energy projects under its feed-in tariff (FiT) 3 programme, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) said yesterday.
The power purchase agreements (PPAs) will be awarded to 500 successful renewable energy project applications with capacities of between 10 kW and 500 kW. Once installed, these systems are expected to power about 15,000 households.
There are 490 solar photovoltaic (PV) schemes, eight bioenergy, one wind and one hydropower project. Of the total, 60 MW will have Aboriginal participation, 42 MW will be at least partially owned by municipal or public sector entities, while 21.5 MW of the schemes will have community participation.
OPA noted that over 95% of the approved applications have received municipal council support resolutions.
Apart from the 123.5 MW of PPAs, OPA will also sign 63 contracts for projects under its Unconstructed Rooftop Solar Pilot (URSP) initiative, whose goal is to add up to 15 MW of capacity.
Ontario’s FiT programme aims to add 150 MW of renewables capacity annually between 2013 and 2018, the provincial power authority said.
