Austrian oil and gas group OMV AG (VIE:OMV) and hydropower producer Verbund AG (VIE:VER) have completed the 3.9-MWp extension of a jointly-owned solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Lower Austria.
The two companies have expanded the total capacity of an existing ground-mounted solar installation on a landfill site owned by OMV in Schoenkirchen to 15.32 MWp by deploying an additional 8,568 PV modules. The plant can now produce 15.84 GWh of electricity per year.
OMV aims to expand the use of solar and wind power for its own operations to at least 1 TWh as part of the OMV Strategy 2030.
On the other hand, Verbund has set a goal of generating 20% to 25% of its total power from solar PV and onshore wind by the end of the decade.
