German wind turbine maker Nordex (ETR:NDX1) today unveiled a 4.8-MW turbine for strong-wind sites.
The N133/4.8 model, which is expected to enter series production in 2019, is a good fit for regions with strong winds in northwestern Europe like Great Britain and Norway, as well as for high-wind sites in Turkey, Australia and Central and South America, the company said.
The new turbine variant extends Nordex's Delta4000 series introduced in the autumn of last year. The manufacturer has combined the rotor blade from the N131 turbine with the hub and nacelle of the N149/4.0-4.5. With a rotor diameter increased to 133 metres (436.4 ft), the N133/4.8 provides an additional yield of up to 39% compared to the previous N100/3300 model, also optimised for strong-wind sites, according to the announcement.
As the N149/4.0-4.5, the new model has low sound power level, while the hub heights of 78 m, 83 m and 110 m offer opportunity for meeting height restrictions, the company said.
