April 3 (Renewables Now) - Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) said today that it has booked wind turbine orders with a combined capacity of 1,644 MW in the first quarter of this year.

Customers ordered turbines for projects in 352 countries. The total for the three months represents an increase of 59% from the first quarter of 2019 when the German company bagged 1,035 MW of deals.

"With 1.4 GW, 85% of the turbines in demand were accounted for by the Delta4000 series. The high proportion of our new 5MW + class turbines with 93 turbines alone, launched in 2019, is particularly pleasing, " said CEO Jose Luis Blanco.

The bulk of new orders in the first three months of 2020 were awarded in Europe, which made it account for 79% of the total volume with 1,292 MW. Norway, the UK, Turkey and Finland were among the markets witnessing the strongest demand on the continent. The manufacturer highlighted a 400-MW order for its new N149 / 5.X turbine that it won in Norway for the Oyfjellet wind project.

Orders from Chile and Brazil amounted to 269 MW and 83 MW, respectively.
