January 15 (Renewables Now) - Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) closed 2019 with wind turbine orders totalling 6,207 MW, up 31% in annual terms, the German manufacturer said today.
The company received contracts to supply 1,616 of its turbines last year, including orders for 359 placed in the closing quarter. Geographically speaking, Europe was the largest contributor, with 3,161 MW and a 51% share of the overall order volume in 2019. High demand from Turkey, Spain, the Netherlands and first order in Ukraine compensated for the slowdown in Germany. The US and Latin American markets were responsible for 28% and 18% of that total, with 1,767 MW and 1,122 MW, respectively.
In October-December 2019, the German company clinched deals with clients from Europe, North and South America to deliver 1,477 MW of turbine capacity. Apart from the already announced deals, Nordex also bagged 67 MW of orders in Chile and 154 MW in the US.
Most of the orders in the fourth quarter, around 57%, were for machines of the Delta4000 series platform, which entered series production in March 2019. A 5-MW turbine from the series -- N149/5.X -- made its debute in the 286-MW Andberg project in Sweden, slated to begin operations in 2021. The Delta4000 series accounted for 44% of the ordered capacity in 2019.
